Gentlemen:
I am very happy to reply to your inquiry concerning Harry Hazelwood, who I understand is applying for scholarship aid from your foundation. As you know, this young man is of the Negro race. I refer to that particularly because he established for himself an unusual place on our campus. He mingled freely with all our students. He gained the respect and affection of his associates to such an extent that the students in the dormitory in which he resided asked me to appoint him as a preceptor, a position which requires leadership qualities of an unusual order.
He is a young man of stable emotions, fine ideals, a wholesome outlook upon life, and a particularly thorough interpretation of the social problems that are involved in human affairs.
You will find him intelligent, well grounded morally, and always dependable. If further information is desired, we will be glad to supply it.
Very truly yours,
Fraser Metzger
