FRONT TRANSCRIPTION
To whom these presents may concern, I
Elijah Phillips — one of the judges of the Court
of Common Pleas in & for the County of Middlesex in the
State of New Jersey, Do certify that on the twenty fourth
day of July in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred
& ninety eight personally appeared before me, a negro
man called Tony, formerly belonging to the estate of
The Revd Israel Read decd. and did freely & voluntarily
acknowledge and declare that he did agree & consent
that he should be disposed of for & during the term of
five years from & after the day of the date of this instrument
of writing, to John Neilson of the city of New Brunswick,
and that he was willing to be the property of the said
John Neilson in conformity to this agreement of his own,
in conjunction with the consent & agreement
of Dcr Thos Reed one of the sons & heirs of the said
Revd. Israel Reed decd. & Docr Moses Scott one of the executors
of the said estate in behalf of Archd. Reed the other son and heir of the said Revd. Israel Reed decd.

Brunswick the 24 day of July 1798
